Key Features and Description
-
The Sky-Dweller features a 42mm Oyster case and is available in Oystersteel, yellow gold, white gold, and Everose (Rolex’s proprietary rose gold alloy), often combined for two-tone versions.
-
The model is renowned for its “Ring Command” fluted bezel, which is not just decorative but actually mechanical, allowing the wearer to select and set different functions (local time, reference time, calendar) in harmony with the winding crown.
-
The dial displays central hour, minute, and seconds hands, plus a 24-hour off-center rotating disc for a second time zone. This makes it easy to distinguish between day and night in the second timezone.
-
The annual calendar, called “Saros,” automatically differentiates between 30- and 31-day months, requiring only one adjustment per year for the date at the end of February. Month indication is elegantly displayed through twelve apertures around the dial.
-
The date display, found at 3 o’clock under a Cyclops lens, is instantaneous and easy to read. The Sky-Dweller also uses Chromalight luminous material for enhanced legibility in all light conditions.
-
Water resistance is rated to 100 meters (330 feet), and the crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire.
-
Available bracelets include Oyster, Jubilee, and the modern Oysterflex elastomer, offering options of both traditional and sporty appeal depending on the reference.
Technical Movement
-
The heart of the Sky-Dweller is the in-house Rolex Calibre 9001, one of the brand’s most intricate movements. It offers 72 hours of power reserve, features a blue Parachrom hairspring (for greater resistance to magnetic fields and temperature changes), and employs Paraflex shock absorbers for robustness.
-
Its timekeeping accuracy is -2/+2 seconds per day after casing, certifying it as a Superlative Chronometer.
